Free Art Island Outpost
Entering its fourth year of partnership with Governors Island, CMA’s Free Art Island Outpost programming will run every Saturday and Sunday, from 11-3PM, inside and surrounding buildings 11 & 14 in Nolan Park. With a programming emphasis for children ages 1-12 years, participants can choose from a variety of hands on art projects and art-viewing experiences, including artist-led workshops, self-guided art stations, large collaborative projects, sound design, animation, podcasting and more. Additionally, select artwork from CMA’s permanent collection of over 2,000 pieces of children’s artwork will be on display in building 14 and select children’s made films from our Media Lab collection will be screened in building 11. Each day a guided workshop will accompany the collection exhibit and film screening to further enrich the art and film viewing.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
CMA Fine Arts & Exhibition at Building 14: Explore Organic Art-making, experimenting with a wide-variety of natural materials and found objects. Make large scale eco installations, design your own organic shape and nature prints. Be inspired by artists such as Leon Ferrari, Andy Goldsworthy, Polly Apfelbaum and others. Create sculptures, fiber arts and make your own shapes! Inside the building, check out our collection pieces, participate in inspired art-making workshops and make your own creative interpretations of the work.
CMA Media Lab Arts & Films at Building 11: CMA Media Lab’s unique technicollaborative storytelling programs allow children to express their creative vision using a wide variety of materials and tools, coupled with up-to-date technology, and a thoroughly collaborative approach. Workshops at Building 11 will expose participants to various techniques in stop-motion animation, illustration, sculpture, filmmaking, puppetry, and sound/music production. In addition, view screenings of films created in Media Lab camps, classes and school partnerships.
