CMA brings multi-session free art programs for children living in transitional housing. CMA’s Teaching Artists bring art materials and workshops to the participants, ages 3-15, inviting them to explore the art of weaving, printmaking and sculpture. Each program culminates with an exhibition of the participating children’s artwork and a reception for families and friends. CMA has partnered with the Henry Street Settlement’s Urban Family Center (UFC) and the Urban Transitional Residency Center in Brownsville Brooklyn, and has received generous funding support from the Rose M. Badgeley Residuary Charitable Trust.
RESTART Program History:
In the spring and summer of 2011 CMA brought two 6-week long free art programs for children living in Henry Street Settlement’s Urban Family Center (UFC) and the Urban Transitional Residency Center in Brownsville Brooklyn. These centers provide transitional housing for homeless families and survivors of domestic violence and their children. Serving nearly 50 children, CMA’s Teaching Artists brought materials and workshops to the participants, ages 3-15, inviting them to explore the art of weaving, printmaking and sculpture. With generous support from the Rose M. Badgeley Residuary Charitable Trust, in fall 2011 CMA will extend its Urban Family Center program over a six-month-long period and culminate with an expanded exhibition of the children’s artwork and a reception for families and friends.
