Stripes

969

Stripes provides a monthly opportunity for children with autism, their siblings & parents to engage in visual art making, creative performing experiences, and imaginative play that will help to develop social interaction, communication skills, dexterity, and self expression in a non-threatening community environment.

Stripes is offered in trimesters:
Fall (October to December)
Winter (January to March)
Spring (April to June)
CMA offers two sections of Stripes, one for families with children under age 8 and one for families with children over age 8.

Stripes I: This class will focus on tactile experiences and building creativity and communication skills through an exploration of different art mediums as well as music, movement, and yoga exercises.  Teaching artists focus on creating opportunities for children and families to build familiarity while introducing new forms of expression.
Meets on the second Saturday of the month from 9:30-11 AM

Spring Session: April 14, May 12, June 8
Fall Session: March 10

Stripes II: This class focuses on using art to build social skills and peer-to-peer relationships. Families will work on a series of collaborative projects incorporating a variety of art mediums as well as experimentation in CMA’s Media Lab and Sound Booth.

Meets on the third Saturday of the month from 9:30-11 AM

Spring Session: April 21, May 19, June 16
Fall Session: March 17

It is up to a parent’s discretion as to which Stripes session is the best fit for their child.

“It is so nice to have a place where our son can be himself and not have to constantly worry about how he might react to other kids or activities. He’s accepted for who he is and all his strengths come out.”  – STRIPES PARENT
