Ages 13 to 15

@5 is CMA’s program specifically for young artists ages 13 to 15. These classes offer in-depth and advanced arts instruction led by experienced teaching artists. With a focus on building arts skills, these classes help prepare teen artists for high school and college-level arts courses, as well as build their portfolios.

Fall Semester 2012

@5 Advanced Filmmaking and Reel Building

Explore the potential of a media-focused art career while building your reel and portfolio. Designed to build the confidence and skills needed to succeed in an art focused high school, you will work closely with a team of professional teaching artists to complete materials required for your portfolio as well as confidently prepare for the audition/interview process. Experiment with traditional and unconventional methodologies in genres like short film, documentary, live action and stop-motion animation. You’ll also sharpen your narrative skills while brainstorming and storyboarding your ideas. The goal is not only to offer you the resources and time needed to prepare professional applications, but also to provide perspective and experience in a variety of mediums you might further pursue.

@5 Portfolio Building

This course will give aspiring artists a head start in portfolio work while building the confidence and skills needed to succeed in an art focused high school. Guided by CMA’s professional teaching artists, you will refine your distinguished style as you create several finalized artworks including live model sculptures and still life sketches. Develop your creative voice and learn how to integrate meaning and character into your work as you brainstorm ideas, observe a variety of inspirational references, and experiment with both 2D and 3D mediums.  You will also learn how to photograph your artwork in order to build your portfolio. Learn how to engage in peer critiques using appropriate terminology, and turn your thoughts into a well written artist statement.

  • Ages: 7th-9th graders
  • Time: 5-7pm

CMA Refund Policy:  CMA is not responsible for providing make-up classes or issuing refunds for programs missed as a result of illness, emergencies or other events beyond our control. If you would like to cancel your enrollment in a class, CMA will provide you with a full refund minus a $75 registration fee up to two weeks prior to the start of class.  Within two weeks of the start of the class, CMA will provide you with a full refund minus the $75 registration fee ONLY if CMA is able to fill your child’s place in the class.  If CMA is unable to fill the place in the class, the class will be non-refundable.

CMA reserves the right to cancel any class due to low enrollment.  In the event of a class cancelation, you will be notified 2 weeks prior to the start of class.  If CMA cancels a class that your child is enrolled in, you will have the option to switch classes within the program or receive a full refund.  Please sign up early to ensure classes proceed as scheduled.
