Patterns and Pop Art

It was all about Roy Lichtenstein this week!
We took a whirlwind tour through the history of pop art and discussed Lichtenstein’s relevance to the post-1960s NYC art scene — much of which took place in the area immediately surrounding their school.
Students were challenged to create their own rendition of Lichtenstein’s iconic Sunrise artwork.
They concentrated on making patterns and creating their own compositions from scratch.
Students loved the repetitive nature of mark-making — some even made up their own songs to sing while applying their dots!
Noormah’s work at Children’s Workshop School is supported by the Emergency Arts Education Fund, which provides free arts education to NYC school communities whose art programs have been decimated by recent budget cuts.
Children’s Museum of the Arts’ three Residents Artists are currently implementing ambitious arts curriculum at each of our partner sites throughout New York City: Hudson Guild in Chelsea, Sid Miller Academy in Crown Heights, and Children’s Workshop School in the East Village.
