About The Emergency Arts Education Fund
When a child loses access to the arts,
it’s an emergency.
The Emergency Arts Education Fund was formed in response to continued DOE budget cuts (- $200M in FY23) and the decimation of art classes in local schools. We believe the ongoing insecurity of arts education is a public health and creativity crisis deserving of immediate assistance. That’s why we disburse support on a rolling basis and without a burdensome application. We place artists directly into schools directly.
The Emergency Fund is an expansion of CMA’s Accessible Arts program and in-school residencies. For over 15 years, we’ve connected local artists to low-income schools to lead high-quality arts education. CMA provides all necessary art materials and develops a curriculum representative of the rich cultural diversity of the school’s neighborhood and community. This year CMA partnered with over 21+ Title 1 Schools (K-12) across NYC. After our programming, we support schools to navigate the difficult process of arts funding with the goal of building a future with more certain arts inclusion.
